In the 16th century, a Kachwaha Rajput named Raja Raj Dev, along with his family, came to the region of Punjab . He was related to the royal family of Jaipur. Raja Raj Dev started meditating here and named the place Balachaur after his son, Balraj. He passed away in 1596. His descendants were known as the Ghorewaha Rajputs of Balachaur Jagir and ruled the area for 200 years.
In the 19th century, the family shifted to Himachal Pradesh and was granted the jagir of MahalMoriyan by Raja Ranbir Chand of Kangra Lambagraon for 5000 rupees. Over the course of their reign, they earned various prestigious titles such as Mian, Thakur, Mansur-i-Zaman, Meiharr, and many others.
